The last year I’ve been working very hard on “the new app” (name still top secret). Same concept as MotoMap but completely redesigned and built from the ground up, with a different map provider and with features you’ve all been waiting and asking for.

It’s gonna be the best and most complete yet super easy to use (motorcycle) Route Planner, Navigator and Tracker out there!

Here are some features which I know you’re gonna love:

• Turn by turn and voice navigation (for routes with many, many viapoints)
• Create your own Routes, right from within the app.
• Easily find Scenic Routes, created by fellow “new app” users. Navigate them and review and rate them.
• Offline Maps
• Landscape mode
• Heading up mode
• 3D Map
• Support for, not only GPS motorcycle navigation, but also Bicycle routes and even pedestrian routes.
• Next to GPX tracks you can now also import Routes and Waypoints from GPX files and fully edit them on the fly.
• Navigate, not only routes, but also to  destinations.
• Trip recording has been improved, optimized and data is now visually displayed in graphs, maps and pics.
• Resume a trip that was in progress when the app stopped unexpectedly. E.g. running out of battery or closing the app by accident (or, God forbid, an app crash)

Cooperation between Furkot and MotoMappers

I’m very happy to announce a cooperation between Furkot and MotoMappers. For those of you unfamiliar with Furkot; Furkot is an online road trip planner. It can help you plan your trip to the tiniest detail including attractions, meals, pit stops, hotels etc. if you want.

Furkot and MotoMappers are working closely together to integrate their services to provide an even better experience for you. In the near future it will be possible to add your Furkot trips directly to MotoMappers and MotoMap so you can start navigating them immediately.

Integration has already started. By clicking the newly added “Create new Track” button in the member area you’ll get to a map where you can select your new route’s start point. After that click “Plan in Furkot” and you’ll be guided to the Furkot site where you can add points to your track and export it to MotoMap. See this quick 3min “how to” video if you want to know more.

In the near future MotoMap and Furkot will integrate even more. You’ll be able to seamlessly and effortlessly navigate your Furkot trips in MotoMap, without having to export and import.

I wanted to let you know that I submitted a major update for MotoMap to Apple today! Expected release in about 2 weeks! Here are some screenshots and a list of what’s new!

What is MotoMap? An App for Scenic Route Touring and Ride Tracking with your iPhone on your Motorcycle

For those of you not yet familiar with MotoMap….MotoMap is a specialized Navigation App for Scenic Route Touring. Mainly intended for Motorcycle Riding but also for Car Drivers who like to tour the scenic backroads. It’s actually 4 apps in 1: A Route Navigator, a Ride Tracker & Logbook, a Scenic Route Database and A GPX Importer. The Navigation is specialized for Route Following; The database is full of Routes shared and rated by locals worldwide; The Ride Tracker tracks all your rides and can include pictures you take along the way; The logbook contains all your past riding adventures. For your memories and to show off to your friends.

 Why an update?

Reason for the update is 2-fold. First of all, quite some bugs surfaced over time as Apple and other 3rd party providers (e.g. Facebook) brought out new versions of iOS and their frameworks respectively. Second of all I wanted to address some things that were bothering me in the old versions, so I added some functionalities and improved the design and user intuitiveness. You’ll find that MotoMap v1.3 is a big improvement to the old version!

Hi guys & girls,

I need your help deciding on a price for my new app, but before I get to that here’s a small update on the new MotoMap:

It’s progressing nicely but it’s all taking a bit longer than I was expecting because it’s a lot of work to get it right. I’m hoping to have a first beta version available in about 3 months.

I’ve had many enthusiastic people asking me how to register as a beta tester. Well, once the beta is ready I will be sending out an email to all current MotoMap users and I will be posting here on the blog, explaining how you can sign up.

So, without further ado, here are some more screenshots:

Now to the part where I need your help. I’m struggling a lot with how I’m going to price this new app. First of all, it’s going to be a new app (so not an update to the new MotoMap) and I don’t want the people that bought MotoMap to pay again for the same functionalities they already have. 2nd of all, I can’t make it free for everything and always. While I’m having the time of my life doing this, I eventually need to earn enough money to support my family with this.

So, here’s my question: How much and in what way would you be willing to pay for this new app?

I’ve thought about some options and, as I like honesty and transparency, I’m laying it all out here:

1. App is free for the first week or so. After that you pay a one time fee to use the app.
2. App is free for the first week or so. After that you pay a fixed/small amount per month or year to use the app.
3. App is free. You pay a one time fee for premium functionality like Voice Nav and Offline Maps
4. App is free. You pay a fixed/small amount per month or year for premium functionality like Voice Nav and Offline Maps
5. You pay for the app. (And remember, you only see screenshots and perhaps a small video of the app. You won’t have the possibility to try it first.)

What option would you prefer (or perhaps you can think of another option / combination of the above) and how much would you be willing to pay?

UPDATE: Due to a lot of bugs surfacing in MotoMap I decided I couldn’t leave my current users out in the cold. So I spent quite some time updating MotoMap. This delayed the work on the new App quite a bit though. New expected availability date: Fall 2015.

In the MotoMap App feedback you voted for future functionalities that you desire most. Well, this is the score and this is what I’m gonna do about it! I’m happy to say that the new App I’m working on will offer 4 out of 5 of these functionalities:

• Turn by Turn and Voice Navigation
• Exporting Tracks
• Offline Maps
• Universal app for iPhone and iPad

What happened to Scenic Route Planning from A to B you ask?
Well, first of all, it’s a lot of work to make this work right, and I want to get it right! Secondly, this requires a well filled database with cool routes and tracks. Although the MotoMap database has been growing (thank you all for adding cool routes and tracks), it’s not full enough yet. So…keep ‘m coming!

So, when is this new app available?
end of 2015! Can I be more precise? Maybe a little bit. I will have a few months more programming to do before I can start the beta test. Around that time I will send out a mail to all current MotoMap users with information on how to sign up as a beta tester.

Will there be an Android version?
I hope so! That depends on how successful the new app is going to be. For now, no concrete plans to start on an Android version!
