I recently read about this product which can turn your regular Motorcycle gloves into touch enabled gloves. This is awesome for use with MotoMap! I already wrote about another solution for this here, but this is a lot easier and less damaging to your gloves.

I also tried this one. There seems not to be any dealer in Europe but it was no problem to have it sent from Canada. It works, that’s all I can say. I can control my iPhone using my usual gloves. But I am a bit concerned as to how long this will last. If you have to renew it every one or two weeks, new gloves with touchscreen compatible fingertips might be the better investment in the long run.
Thanks Dirk. If you don’t mind, could you let us know if they stop working after a few weeks? I’m especially interested in how rain and even frost might impact it. (I guess we have to wait a bit to test the frost thing 🙂
I have been using NanoTips for almost two months now. So it is time for an preliminary conclusion.
As I already said: It works. You can control the iPhone wearing your motocycle cloves. 🙂
But as I suspected: It does not last long. On the website they say: up to 30 days – this is optimistic. I only got to ten days, then the layer peeled off. I must disclaim: used the bike every day commuting to work. And secondly we are exeriencing a period of really hot summer weather which might be a disadvantage too. But still, I find this product quite clever – but not much more than a substitute for real gloves made for touchscreens.
Again on the website, the tell about 30 treatments per bottle. Asumed you need two fingertips for pinching and one treatment every two weeks, then it is round about one bottle (20$) for one season. You can calculate for yourself where the break even of a new pair of touchscreen motorcycel gloves is. But these are sort of rare, unfortunately…

Summary: there are 3 options:
1. Nanotips like liquid (different brand) also not a big success.
2. Sewing conductive wire in your gloves like I also outlined here: https://scenic.app/iphone-motorcycle-gps-8-things-to-consider/
3. Thumb Dogs. Another product, basically a small “finger glove” for over your glove’s finger tips.

Now I also tried thump dogs – these are crap. The ‘one finger glove’ is much too big so you can’t be sure whether you trigger the button you want. And most important: It does not stay on the finger. I thought that I could keep them on the glove but they keep being ripped of when taking off the glove. If they did not fall of before, that is.
That was a waste of money. I was finally fed up with those half-engineered products and ordert some decent gloves because I wanted new ones for the colder season anyway: Held touch. Maybe I’ll stitch some metal thread to my summer gloves for next year.
Hmmm. Good to know. I expected more from the dogs. Looked great on paper. I sewed conductive wire in my summer and winter gloves and, what I’m hearing from the the alternatives now, is not a bad choice at all. So far it always works. You do have to take cards on the position of the “patch” you are creating. And, for my winter gloves, they are not entirely waterproof anymore on my index finger.
