Improve readability of top panel (and some map UX suggestions)

On your iPhone search the library for Shortcuts. This is a built in Apple app. Select the '+' icon top right to create a new shortcut. Tap 'Add Action' then search 'Dark' and select 'Set Appearance'. The default action will read 'Turn appearance Dark'. You can change Dark to Light by tapping on the blue word 'Dark' and selecting from popup menu. To finish shortcut and save tap on 'Next' top right. Give the shortcut a name. You will now see your newly created shortcut in the main shortcut app menu. Test it by selecting it. You can edit the shortcut by tapping on the '3 dots' top right in shortcut button. To add this to Scenic goto 'Settings' page. Select 'Navigation Menu' and then give 'Shortcut 1' or 'Shortcut 2' the EXACT name you gave your shortcut. The name of the shortcut must be the same otherwise it will not work. Be very careful with spaces between names. Thats it.

Edit. I'm on the latest iOS 14.4.2 which has an App Library feature. I cannot remember the older versions but you just need to open the Apple Shortcut App to create/ edit / use shortcuts.

I made two shortcuts; one for dark and one for light mode. I then added these to Scenic as described. When activating the shortcut in Scenic, it went through the procedure but did not change the appearance on Scenic, only on other apps supporting dark mode.
I have set "Light mode setting" to "High Contrast Regular" and "Dark mode settings" "High Contrast Dark".
I then - just now while writing - remembered I had set "Appearance / Dark mode / Never..." Changed this setting to Auto and Voila - there it all worked like magic :-))))
