Harley riders might disagree, but Harley Davidson is terribly overrated. This is what Sammy James from hotcars.com claims. Nice to look at, but pretty much worthless overall. Performance, comfort, reliability, and every other feature that define a cool superbike are all missing. Do you think that is why many of them refuse to greet other, non Harley riders?
I thought I only liked Tomahawk steak but it turns out the 8.1 liter Dodge Tomahawk get my juices running as well. A four-wheeled superbike that even supercars have a problem keeping up with. It can go from 0-60mph in just 1.75 seconds. No wonder it has never been fully certified for public use on the American roads.
Where the Dodge isn’t actually street legal in most places, the Suzuki GSX-R1000 K5 is and it won’t break the bank, as long as your budget is around $4,000 😉

The Dodge tomahawk is not a motorcycle. I I have owned 36 Harley’s . Harleys are the bike most people want on a ride. But if you cannot afford a Harley ride a jap bike.It is true a lot of Japanese bikes are faster but who would want to go across country bent over. Anyway have a good day just as long as you’re riding is the important thing it doesn’t matter what bike you’re on keep on smiling.
The only thing bent over is your wife when I visit her while you’re at work.

Well, being from Wisconsin and a Harley 45 was my first motorcycle, it was also my last Harley. I will say that the forte of the Harley phenomenon is image and brand loyalty, with technology aspects taking a secondary role. Harley got smart years ago and started selling Harley Fashion items with great success.
I really like the Wisconsin based Harleys and in my younger days I rode with good friends on Harleys. I get a little miffed when bareheaded, rumbling Harley riders go by (within feet sometimes) and don’t wave. I usually wave or nod at everyone, it doesn’t take much effort.

They don’t go, don’t stop, don’t go round corners very well but here in the UK, it’s my Harley that draws the smiles and attention – makes me feel good ! Isn’t that what biking is all about ?
My Honda Shadow handles well and never lets me down. I put gas in it, check the tires, and change the battery about every 5 years. Awesome bike.
That shadow is a nice bike. However there isnt much aftermarket support for it and after 5 years dealership wont touch it. Independent shops will though. But at the end of the day it’s still just a Honda. Dont get mad at me I own a 1971 Honda CB750 FOUR SOHC and it’s in garage with all my Harleys and Yamaha’s. I dont care I just love motorcycles
I agree completely, feeling good is why we all ride! For me, that feeling comes from the BMW “baby” GS (but most of my riding is off-road)
Harley is overrated, but it looks great and has a great sound.
It´s a bike to cruise to the coffeehouse around the corner and to catch-up some jealousy glances.
But If you want to travel around, see a lot of the world and enjoy curvy roads – you need a better bike.

Your nuts . I ride a 09 dyna with 80 thousand miles on it. It’s my transportation.
I didn’t know about these issues. As a sports bike rider in North America, it’s going to make me feel a whole lot better to think these guys are just pissed about their troublesome bikes next time I get a contemptuous angry look instead of a nod back.
You’ll always get a wave from me irrespective of if I’m riding a Harley, Yamaha, Honda or Norton. I’ve had a few snooty sport bike riders ignore me when I’m on the Harley, a few of the Harley riders do the same when I was on the Yamaha.
Thankfully these days at least where I ride, most nod or wave. It’s about the fun of the bike not the brand.
For those too snooty to not nod back, screw ‘em. Who cares.
As for reliability, I’ve had no complaints with any of my modern bikes. Can’t say any of them have been particularly troublesome.
Ride safe, keep nodding to the other rider (be the better person) and if they don’t respond, well that’s an indication of their deficiencies rather than their bike’s.

Wow! I hate articles like this. Just BS. Harley overrated? Whatever. It’s about the ride isn’t it? My 2007 cruiser has never given me an issue, glides in and out of the twisted like butter, I don’t need to do 130mph and don’t really care too, I wave at all riders, ride with a lot of guys that don’t have harley’s. the only people who give a crap about this are people like the author. I also know I am. It unique on this. Get a grip.

Yeah, I can’t help but feel the author might have s narrow world view. I’ve owned several bikes, mostly Japanese, but currently a street glide. I ride with non Harley riders. I also wave to all riders. Never had a break down. And I really enjoy riding it, just like I enjoyed riding my Yamaha and Hondas.

While I tend to agree with the author and will never own a HD, his perspective/opinion is horribly tainted by his love for speed. He backs up his claim by saying the only true superbike is a 4-wheeled monster of a motorcycle that is so ridiculous that it’s not even street legal? Nice try Jasper. Missed the mark on this one.
I’m no fan of Harleys, but I think this “article” is pretty garbage. I don’t think anyone thinks a Harley is a superbike, nor is a race-replica (or the Tomahawk) the epitome of a perfect bike. The perfect bike is the one that suits your riding style the best.
This article does not cite sources, it doesn’t have any data to back up its claims, and it makes a lot of assumptions for such a short piece. Which is lazy, because there are A LOT of easily available and verifiable metrics to show that Harleys rate pretty low in comparison with other bikes (reliability, construction, power, value, design, resale, etc).
Again, you couldn’t pay me to get a Harley. And I hope no one paid the author for this content.

Hahaha, I’ve owned multiple rice rockets over the years and survived. Many friends didn’t! Yes, Jap bikes are more reliable, but unless you’re looking to tear up the asphalt every time you go riding, I don’t see the point anymore. I chug along on my 2 wheeled stump puller enjoying the scenery and taking it all in. Overrated? I think not… just different from riding around on the back wheel at 90MPH! Pretty lousy article all round!
I’m afraid Sam does not get the life style that goes hand n hand with H-D. They are not an overrated bike but they may be overpriced and that’s something Harley has to get a grip with.
H-D has owned the 1/4 mile for a long time. If you want to talk about speed.

All with different characteristics and one of your first articles comes across as a negative hate piece driven by the opinions of someone most of us don’t know or care about (potentially trying to be funny?)
I personally dislike riders who dismiss people who aren’t riding a preferred brand (historically this unfortunately seemed to often be a subset of what often appeared to be Harley, Ducati and BMW riders) and appreciate people who are happy that you’re just riding. At least my experience is that they seem to be less frequent these days (again only my opinion).
This was a particularly stupid article to include if you’re looking to expand your customer base in cruiser markets, particularly given that different people get different experiences out of bikes (some prefer high revving power, some lumpy low end torque). I certainly would think twice about recommending your app, if it’s going to justify and publish opinions like that about its users choices (keep in mind different cultures are going to have different opinions of what is “humorous“).

I agree Harley is not a Superbike but it is a comfort for me. I have a Harley Davidson Street 750 which is really good for Cruising, im not interested in super speed. Ride cool is what Harley is.

I’ve ridden all kinds of motorcycles my entire life ….I currently ride a 23 year old chopper that’s a harley …in my opinion every motorcycle is overrated to the person who isn’t riding it . The only thing that matters is how the bike makes the person riding it feel…period. So enjoy riding whatever you ride and wave at anyone on a motorcycle regardless of the brand or type . Being kind doesn’t cost anything and you might need their help someday when you break down on the side of the road .

There is no doubt in my mind about the cost of a Harley or any of it’s accessories or parts that they sell . This bike is grossly overpriced cross the board , but it is not about what bike you own , it is about the joy of the experience of being out on the road and enjoying the fresh air in your face and the open road leading you to new adventures .Having fun and meeting others with the same interests as well . Camaraderie is strong at most gatherings if you do not have an attitude and show kindness and respect to others as well . I have been riding motorcycles since I was 5 years old , from my dad,s 1948 250 Jawa to BSA , Triumph , Honda V-65 Magna in 1984 , one of the fastest honda,s ever made . But again I say , it is all about having fun out their , riding safely and being courteous to other motorists . I am presently 68 years old and look back to many very fond memories of all that I have met out there on the road , from all walks of life and al I can say is if you have not tried it do it and be ready for an experience of a lifetime …..yours sincerely ….Kemy Loree Derlago.
You are a true rider. Im impressed by your comment. What i have to say is this- you dont have to go fast to be cool on my street. Glide. Harley may be slow and cumbersome by some folks standards but the badass of them cannot be denied
