Using Stops

my last two rides i've planned a route that included a stop to pick up a buddy. Both times when we go to head out, the route that i've planned no longer is show on the screen. I've had to finish and discard the ride, and restart the route, which of course makes it confused as to why i'm not at the Start of the route.
what am i doing wrong with stops?

Could you include a screenshot of the route when you open it in the route editor? (Edit points) or use the ‘share url’ button to create a link and paste it here.
