Splitting up Routes

Dear Guido,

thank you for this awesome piece of software, I really appreciate your commitment and the loads of work you are putting in this project.

I wondered if you could implement a possibility to split up planned routes into parts (like one could with kurviger) through editing a once set stop, and / or adding the functionality to somehow add the estimated time of arrival to a certain stop?

Thanks again for the great work

Jan

Hi Jan,

In Scenic 3 I'm making a few changes regarding this, but not sure it will cover what you're looking for. Could you perhaps give me an example of a situation where you'd need such a functionality and how this looks like in your mind?

Currently you can split up a route into several smaller routes. It's a bit cumbersome though:
- Duplicate the route (select route from your route list > scroll down and select 'Duplicate route and Edit')
- In the route editor go to the 'more' button bottom left and select 'batch delete points' (top option)
- Now select the first and last marker which you want to delete
- After that you're left with the remaining points.
- Add a start and destination if you deleted them in the 2nd step
- Save the route

Do this as many times as you want the original route to be split up in.

Hope this helps/explains. If not or if you have other questions please let me know. Happy to help.

Best regards and ride safe,
Guido

The estimated time of arrival at defined Stops would be very valuable to me. For example, I got a call while riding from a friend who said to swing by for lunch. I inserted a stop in the middle of my 150 mile day route, but there was nowhere to see when I’d arrive. I know I could chop up my very clean route, but being able to tap on a Stop to see arrival time would be great. Thanks.

in that case... tap the bottom bar when navigating mode. A panel will slide up from the bottom. That panel contains a route timeline.

Take this route with 3 stops for example:

When navigating this route.. and tapping the bottom bar... this is the route timeline at the beginning of the route:

This route timeline updates dynamically during your ride. If you’ve reached a stop it will disappear from the route timeline. It will only show you what still is to come.

In Scenic 3 I’ll also add a functionality that makes it possible to toggle the ETA that you see in the bottom bar. That is... toggle between eta of next stop and eta of destination.

Even better! Wow, time to jump back into your user guides. Thanks very much, that’ll do it for me.

The solution while in navigation mode sounds great - didn't find that.

But - to answer the question for the usecase: I tend to plan a whole route from start to end and then change it to my needs / preferred route sections. So I'm setting up a route - let's say form Munich to Graz - and first see, what Scenice comes up with. Then I add vias and stops so that the route fits my preferences. So - to stay in that example - Scenic wouldn't guide me over the Nockalmstraße so I would probably include this passage with vias. Depending on the length and the estimated duration, as well as on the time I might start, I then decide where to pause / stay for the night.

So it then would be quite handy to split up the total route into day sections - with just one or two clicks.

That is also why I would appreciate if while in route planning Scenic would show the ETA and the mileage from start to single stop and from previous stop to actual stop.

But that is all just sort of complaining on a very high level - as we would say.

Thank you for the work around.

Thanks for the further explanation Jan. That makes perfect sense. I’ll add this to the list for Scenic 3!

Thank you. I appreciate that very much.
