Quick location marker while riding!

Hi Guido, love scenic, thanks for the fantastic app and even better support.

A feature I would love to see (or love to hear how it can already be done in the app in a way I am missing!), would be to have the option to have a large menu button (the same as or something similar to the large “+” and “-“ zoom in/out buttons), that while riding could be quickly tapped and would mark/save that specific location.

I would use this feature in the following way: often while riding/exploring, I’ll ride past an area/building/park/etc that I would like to perhaps visit or explore in the future, and would like to be able to tap a button, marking the map with a “flag” or some other form of marker, which would be saved to be referenced after the fact. How these markers are saved could be played with (e.g. I think at the very least they should be saved in the “ride” in which they were placed), but perhaps they could also be compiled in a list of their own under POI’s, and/or the option to toggle all previously placed markers on/off on the map in case you travel by them accidentally again in the future.

I would also find huge value in being to rename/description and categorize/edit them as much as possible (e.g. the ability to place them in user-created categories, and perhaps change their colour, as a user may colour code all markers of a similar style so that they can be better understood when they appear on the map [e.g. one colour for all markers that are potential roads to explore, another colour for markers that signify restaurants to try out, etc.]).

Edit/update: as you could probably tell, I’ve never used POI’s before, and it looks like the POI system seems to be very similar to what I talked about. Of course, the big difference is the ability to quickly add the marker/POI while riding, and to have a bit more options for showing them on the map and whatnot. But some of the already available POI features (e.g. proximity warnings, etc.) would work great for these markers that I’m suggesting!

Hope that makes some form of sense!

Cheers,

Thanks for the suggestion. Fully understand. You are not the first one requesting this ☺️. It’s high on the list to add in Scenic 3: https://scenic.app/knowledge-base/scenic-3-info/ Your reasoning snd details are very helpful. Thanks!

I am very impressed with all you’re hard work that you put into version 2, I know version 3 is going to be totally awesome!

Thanks Guido, I figured it had probably been brought up by others, sorry for the redundancy!

Can't wait for Scenic 3, and will continue to enjoy Scenic 2 in the meantime.

Not sure this fits here, but instead of starting a new thread, thought this may add to the feature. I’ve had problems when stopping for a break and eating with the mapping going nuts. Instead of simply taking up where I went off the planned trip, it has me returning to my starting point and redoing the whole trip. I thought at one point it would correct itself when I got back on the road, however if it will, it takes too long.

In order to solve the issue, I hav tried editing the route by deleting the route beginning point and trying to make my current location the starting point. Since I am doing this on the “run” so to speak, getting the target precisely placed is an issue so the app gives me directions I do not need. How can I simply make my current location the starting point. When creating a map, from scratch, it does that.

While I have you, how can I find in the app what the address I entered for the ending point (often a motel or park or person’s home). The app doesn’t tell me as does Apple Maps what my destination is when I reach it.

I've heard this problem before. Was never able to find the root cause. Scenic 3 will solve this though. What you could try (for the longer stops) is to pause the navigation and turn off the GPS when you do it. (Tap the bottom bar where you see the ETA. In the panel that slides up is a pause button. Tap it and choose 'turn off GPS')

If it still happens, you don't need to get the start point to the exact location where you are. Simply delete the start point, and all the points you already passed, and resume the ride. The it will automatically take you from your current location to the next stop/via point in the route.

You can't at the moment. With Scenic 3 I will make sure to add such a feature.

For sure this would be useful. I often pass beautiful wild camping spots and want to mark them without stopping.

As for how it could work:

  • it would be nice to be able to toggle it on/off exactly like the Quick pic button.
  • when touched, it could automatically create a POI in the “Favourites” folder with a name that includes the date and time - something like this: 22020925 1415. That way we can go back after the ride and easily recall what we were looking at (or easily figure it out looking at our recorded ride) and edit the name accordingly if desired.

    Thanks!

I was just thinking this past weekend during my ride that I would really like to be able to flag locations along my ride. I've searched through the app and I don't think this feature was added to Scenic 3. It would be nice to know if this feature is still queued to be added to Scenic.

Yes. I’m migrating Scenic to the new HERE map framework during fall/winter. This is the perfect opportunity to also add a lot of outstanding feature requests, like this one.
