Losing Wunderlinq connection?

During the last couple of rides I've been using Scenic with Wunderlinq (native support, no Switch Control, no WQ app active). That works fine, but I've been losing the connection to the Wunderlinq -- what feels like intermittently, during the ride.

Turns out that the connection is lost every time I stop and start the engine. Apparently the WQ has a short blip in the Bluetooth connection at that time, and Scenic doesn't pick it up again. Now that I know this it turns out to be quite easy to work around. I just have to remember to restart Scenic once the engine is running 🙂

Background info: the issue occurs with WQ firmware 1.8 and 48.48 (=current). The disconnect does not occur (or is not noticable) when using the Wunderlinq app or using the WQ+wheel in combination with Accessibility->Switch Control.

OK. Strange... I'll look into it. Is your WunderLINQ still powered when your engine is not running? In other words, is WunderLINQ powered only when engine is running?

If you're enjoying Scenic and are happy with the support, please leave a nice rating in the App Store. It would mean a lot to me ❤️

The Wunderlinq remains powered with the engine turned off. I would imagine there may be a very short blip when starting or stopping the engine. Non-Scenic scenarios (Switch control, WQ app) seem unaffected by it.

Edit: note that the connection is also lost on *starting* the engine. Let me know if I can do something to help, eg a debug trace.

Hi, I also use Wunderlinq with scenic on a 2020 BMW R1250GSA.  My connection to scenic/WL behaves properly, starting/connecting and stopping when the engine goes off (actually there is a 30 second delay before the power to Wunderlinq is cut).   The only thing I need to remember is long/up press the BMW menu to switch to NAV control after restarting as the default is TFT.

I wonder if it is possible that the interface pins on the Wunderlinq are becoming dislodged in your case that happens to coincide with starting/stopping vibrations and intermittent riding disconnects.  Could be the pins are also dirty. Given that I have an expensive phone hanging off the Wunderlinq on a RAM mount I wanted to take no chances and zip tied the Wunderlinq device to the bike mount just underneath the AMP screw mounts that hold the RAM mount and then around the GPS mount.

Hi Idebide, just to report back - thanks for the tip but I've rechecked the physical seating of the unit in the mount and that is really tight and stable. I cannot get the Wunderlinq to disconnect from Scenic even if I try hard to dislodge it with my hands while the engine is running. The connector is clean.

Anyway, I would be surprised if it's a loose connection, because in the meantime I've done a lot of shaking and bumping with the bike -- and it's still only on engine start & stop that the WQ connection to Scenic is cut. Maybe it's a "firmware" difference between your 2020 bike and my 2017, very briefly cutting power to WQ, and Scenic picking up on this. Thanks for the suggestion in any case. -Peter

Hi Peter,

Also looking into this one now. Do you still have this issue with the latest Wunderlinq firmware? Additionally, Scenic will give a brief pop-up message on screen saying "WunderLINQ Connected" and "WunderLINQ Disconnected". Do you see any of those upon engine start and/or stop?

Cheers,

Guido
