iOS Lock Screen Notification
Quote from skeelo221 on 17.05.2020, 19:33Hello,
Just downloaded Scenic & I am trying it out -- I went on my first ride with it today and it worked very well! I imported a ride from Kurviger. Worked mostly very well.
I am excited for the Scenic route planning webapp -- that should make things a lot easier to plan the ride using Scenic.
Anyway, I have a question regarding the iOS lock screen notification. I have not seen an option in Scenic to allow a pop up notification when the iPhone is locked to give you a heads up of an upcoming turn.
Is this possible?
Thanks!

Sorry, this is currently not possible and honestly have not foreseeN to add this feature. Is this something you would use on a regular basis / what would be the scenario to use this? Do you know of an app that does this? Apple Maps maybe?
Cheers,

Apple Maps does this very well, and as an added bonus since it's an Apple app you can just click any button to turn on the screen and the navigation shows up on the lock screen you don't have to unlock the phone for it. But I do not think this is possible with 3rd party apps.
An example of what I'm thinking of is something like Google Maps. If you are navigating with the phone locked, it will wake up the screen and give you a notification that a turn is coming up so this will get your attention so you can unlock the phone to see the full directions.
Scenario to use this would be quite frequent, as it would allow you to keep the phone locked to conserve power, and just be notified when a turn is coming up. If you have a route with lots of turns, of course you just leave the phone unlocked, but let's say you are out on a country road and the next turn is not for 30 miles.
What I would do in this case is check my ODO and make a mental note at what mileage the turn is coming up and then lock my phone to conserve power.
The notification would make this easier and more fullproof in cases where you are traveling on the same road for a while before the next turn comes up.

Quote from Guido on 17.05.2020, 20:34OK... if the main objective is to conserve power (which I understand) I think there is a better option. I used to have that in Scenic 1 and I'm planning to add this to Scenic 2 again too.
If the next turn instruction is far away the Scenic would dim the brightness to 10% (almost same as locked phone) and only when next turn instruction gets close (or you deviate from the route / or you touch the screen) the brightness is turned back up. This has a big advantage over the lock screen thing (which would theoretically also be possible of course) in that you don't need to touch the screen for any of this (pushing on/off or home button and entering your unlock code while riding (as Face ID won't work with helmet on) can potentially be dangerous).

Quote from Deleted user on 18.09.2021, 10:41If i may jump on this thread, i too would like that app to run on the lock screen as per the Apple maps ( but i doubt that would be possible )
But i do not use the app on a mount on the bike, i plug in head phones and use voice direction only and put the phone inside my Bike jacket.. some times it will touch something as it in my pocket.
Ideally a voice prompt only mode would be a great addition and you could switch off the maps completely which would also save power ... food for thught ??

Quote from Guido on 18.09.2021, 10:59When iPhone is locked and in your pocket you are basically in voice only mode. All screen activity is paused while the iPhone is locked so that’s not using any battery. You are still using the GPS receiver obviously, which is the second biggest (next to the screen) battery eater.

Quote from skeelo221 on 27.06.2022, 01:25hello Guido, has this feature been removed from scenic 3? The brightness remains 100% and does not dim for me now. So my original post I have the same question 🙂 thank you!!Quote from Guido on 17.05.2020, 20:34OK... if the main objective is to conserve power (which I understand) I think there is a better option. Quote from Bradiac on 28.08.2022, 02:45+1 on bringing back the power saver option…
I ride with my iPhone 11 in an Xgrip, with a wireless charger on the face of the Xgrip, between it and my LifeProof iPhone case. The case adds thickness to the iPhone, setting it just a bit farther away from the charger, which I think lowers the charge rate.
With the phone unlocked, navigating, and playing music via Bluetooth to my SENA, it just can’t keep up, and after a couple of hours the phone is nearly out of battery. To help prolong battery life, I have Siri dim the screen as low as it will go, which makes it hard to see in the daylight, but I have to remember to brighten it up when I get to a bunch of turns.
It would be nice to have it happen automatically again.

Quote from skeelo221 on 08.09.2023, 19:19I was able to make use of the programmable 2 shortcuts to help with this.
I made 1 shortcut "DIM" that sets screen brightness to 10%. Then a "BRIGHT" shortcut that sets screen brightness to 90%
It works a treat in lieu of the official power safe setting which hopefully is forthcoming.

The big update I’m working on now will bring back the battery saver feature.

Quote from AstridM on 18.09.2023, 10:14What about introducing / using the "Dynamic Island" function of newer iPhones in Scenic? I guess that would also save lots of power.
