Gravel road

Quote from shwiggs on August 15, 2020, 19:52scenic keeps sending me down gravel roads, even if I have avoid gravel roads selected. Used scenic this weekend in southern Minnesota and twice it tried to have me take a gravel road. Does anybody else have this problem? As of right now I feel I can’t trust the app to generate a trustworthy route for me to take. Is there something I’m doing wrong? How can I fix this problem?

Quote from Jayzeable on August 17, 2020, 02:17I also have this problem. Although, the gravel road is very near to where I live, so spotted it prior to the start of my ride.
The entrance to this road is tarmac, as you turn off a 'B' road here in the Uk. You then hit the old tarmac, before eventually turning to gravel which is heavy with very deep potholes, and very uneven suited to 4x4's. My car would not drive over this part it's so bad.
The road near me is an access road only and serves some residential properties. This road should not be used as a shortcut and is signposted as such. Coming from the other side, the road serves industrial access and the road before turning to gravel on the link between.

Open Street Map is usually and in most areas very good, but in some areas (and especially the 'less travelled' roads, it doesn't know what kind/type of road it is and then assumes paved. I'm switching Scenic to another proprietary map provider for next motorcycle season, which should solve most of these problems.

What's the status here? I live in Germany and scenic keeps using roads prohibited for motorcycles - which is a major pain and really a show stopper to continue paying for extras.

Quote from miudode on February 22, 2021, 23:52Hi Guido, please note that I‘m not of the same opinion. These Gravel Roads in Germany are not allowed for motorcycles, but they are allowed for Mountainbiking or biking, what is the intent of Scenic as well. I do both using Scenic, around 70% Motorbiking and 30% biking. So, I disagree the gravel roads shall be removed from Scenic. Also, at the entrance of this „not allowed“ gravel roads there are signs / indications that motorized vehicles are not allowed. Thanks

Quote from Guido on February 23, 2021, 05:23I understand. No worries. The new map provider will still have the gravel roads, but in the routing options there will be a setting to avoid unpaved roads. So you can choose.
but please remember that Scenic is for motorized vehicles first and foremost. The routing is for motorized vehicles, so it will always avoid the roads where motorized vehicles are not allowed to go. I might be adding a bicycle routing in the future though, but that will be a little while.
