Future option: fixed zoom

@guidomm

it would be nice if the zoom would have a fixer user setting. For example 125m or 275m. The plus/min buttons would temporarely scale up or down and then go back to the fixed user settings.

in dutch some more explenation:

Zoombereik tijdens navigeren is super!

Hi Marc,

I'm making some changes to zoom for the upcoming update. Just to confirm I understand correctly what you would like:

  • Zoom that doesn't change during navigation. The map area and detail level stays the same no matter what speed you are going. (Have you tried the Auto Zoom Off setting in Navigation and Tracking section?)
  • Only a tap (or a quick number of taps) on the zoom buttons would temporarily change the zoom level (somewhere between 5 and 10 seconds would be a good value probably)
  • You would like a setting to have zoom buttons top left (it actually makes sense to have them on the 'clutch' hand side 🙂)

Is that correct?

Then you are also reporting a bug if I understand correct? In that zoom reverts to 'default values' after a route recalculation? I didn't know about this bug, but that will be addressed by the zoom changed I'm making for the upcoming update.

Hi Guido,

this is exactly what i would like.

(one of the first things i’ve done is put off auto zoom...).

Maybe you could give each zoom its own number, so im really sure i have the same zoom each time.

the going back to standard zoom (being not my zoom) happend after:

- recalculate

- auto-pauze (after clicking “hervat”)

greetings Marc

I also find the zoom buttons very responsieve (too responsive for me). Especially during driving they zoom in/out very quickly (could also be my iPhone 11).

Do you mean the amount they change when you tap them? Or the speed the map changes with? Are you in 2D or 3D mode?

Im in 2D mode.

When Im holding my iphone in my hands and touch zoom with my "bare" hands, everything is just fine. But doing this while riding the bike and with my gloves on, I think because of the "bumpy" road, my finger touches the iphone sometimes rapidly after each other (althought I only want to touch it once), so the zoom often doesnt just go 1 step forward or backwards, but two or three times.

I read somewhere, that Scenic "knows" when Im moving my bike, maybe you could program the zoom so that when Im riding the zoom buttons only respond again after one second of "not responding".

Good idea... I'd probably implement that for all touch interaction while moving (e.g. all buttons in navigation menu). Will add to the list

The fixed zoom works great. Thanks for fixing it. Now I barely have to touch the Iphone again, which makes it a saver drive.

What I still notice is that when Im slightly of route (when and it says "recalculate") and for some reasons Im cant follow the original route (for example a road block), then during the period of time Im not on the original route, it has its "own" zoom and not the one I have choosen. Maybe this is on purpase, maybe not.

(when I get back from the d-route on the original route, within a few seconds "my zoom area" is back, which is great).

Hi Marc,

Sound like a bug. I'll look into it. Thanks for reporting.

Cheers,

Guido
