Combining Multiple Tracks
Quote from akroblade954 on 31.12.2020, 17:27Firstly, Happy, New Year all !!
Im a relatively new user of scenic and struggling with importing whole gpx files, containing multiple tracks. For example, when importing gpx files provided by Adventure Bike Rider to support their route publications.
These gpx files contain multiple Tracks as well as multiple Waypoints once I have imported the file. So I can select “import all” for the waypoints and save them in a POI or Location and view them on the map. But, you can only import single Tracks out of the gpx file as far as I can see. These Tracks are short hops between the Waypoints and I would really like to combine these into one route in Scenic.
Pulling my hair out trying to find a way to do this and I do hope it’s possible and I am missing something simple here!
thanks in anticipation 🙂

Im afraid this is not possible at the moment. Scenic can only import tracks and routes as they are. You can not combine them.
I would have to see the GPX file to be certain, but I assume it’s an error in the GPX generation on Adventure Bike Rider side. They should provide the whole track in the GPX. I’m assuming we are talking about a one day ride? I’m asking because in general I recommend to make one route per day. If each track in the GPX is one day riding then that’s probably what you want.
You could try importing the GPX into a GPX editor software package that can join the tracks. I’ve looked at this in the past and have not find any software that can easily do this.
I know this is probably not the answer you were looking for but I hope it helps.
Cheers, Guido

Yes, the one I am currently trying to plan is a one day route (200 miles) and broken into 7 waypoints. It’s one gpx files but imports into scenic as 7 separate tracks, which is a pain!
Link to the download below and I hope it works ok pasting into here

Quote from akroblade954 on 01.01.2021, 06:40Hello again
After hours of playing with online gpx editors / convertors i have cracked it! What better to do on New Years Day!!
I don't think it is a problem with the ABR generation methods they used. It seems to be a problem with either my Mac or the Scenic web app or the way it is being imported on the iphone app. The last time i used an ABR file (back in Sept) it all worked fine. As a test, i tried importing that same file again and am having exactly the same problem with it now as i am having with the current file i am trying to import above. Using online visualizers suggests the ABR GPX generation files are correct.
Hopefully you can investigate using my link above and advise what you find and let me know, but my work round was as follows:
I used the online GPSVisualizer tool: https://www.gpsvisualizer.com/convert_input?convert_format=gpx
I selected the ABR .gpx file (downloaded and saved on my Mac) under file #1
Before converting, select the "Show Advanced Options" below the conversion window.
In the Advanced options, choose Yes for "Connect all segments" and "Merge all tracks"
Then click on Convert
I then dragged and drop this converted file in the Scenic Webapp and imported into Scenic on the phone and it was all there and combined and ready to use or be edited in Scenic as normal.
I look forward to hearing your thoughts on why this might be happening and hope this helps.
Regards, Adrian

I used Trailrunner mini to combine the different tracks. You can connect 2 tracks with each other in one time.
The result is the following track in Scenic : combined track in scenic
When Scenic makes a route from the GPX file, it does not correspond completely to the original.

Hi Adrian... sorry for the late reply. Finally back to work after the holidays.
It is as I suspected. This file contains 9 separate tracks. In the future I might build a function to combine tracks, but not sure about this yet.
In essence, the 'fault' is with the creator of the GPX file (which is not adventurebikerider I suspect, but the person who uploaded this GPX to adventurebikerider). This person (or the program he/she used) created a separate track between each of the waypoints. To be honest, I suspect this was on purpose. This person just wanted to have a separate log of each stretch of the way.
If you'd like to know more on how this works, open the GPX in a text editor and search for <trk>. This element marks the beginning of a track. A track can have several segments <trkseg> element. The best would have been if there was only one <trk> element, with 9 track segments in it. Scenic would have joined those segments together automatically. But, this files has 9 <trk> elements, each with just one <trkseg> in it. Thus, Scenic sees it as separate tracks.
I don't believe this is a AdventureBikeRider 'mistake'. I believe AdventureBikeRider just stores the GPX files that are uploaded, and gives you a copy of it when you download it. So, chances are that other files of AdventureBikeRider might work. (Haven't checked).
Hope this helps/explains. If not or if you have other questions please let me know. Happy to help.
Best regards and ride safe,
Guido
