The 2021 KTM 1290 Super Adventure S

When I watched Long Way Home’s video on the new KTM Super Adventure S a.k.a. the Super Hooligan I was sold. This is a bike so aesthetically pleasing and at the same time such a magnificently sophisticated monster that I would buy it without needing to try it.

Love at first sight

Unlike Guido who sifts through dozens of bikes for months on end, I am the love-at-first-sight kind of guy. The 2021 KTM 1290 SAS’ comfort is just out of this world; perfect seat height: 849 mm / 33.5 inches, a whooping 160 horse power and 138Nm (102 lb-ft) of torque and a new split radiator system that channels the heat away from your feet. Improved 7 inch dash, quick shifter, motor slip control, off-road as well as cornering ABS, low(er) center of gravity, available upgrade to automatic preload adjustment and last but not least a flipping radar based adaptive cruise control system which freaks me out a little bit just thinking about using but hey, I have heard only good things about it.

The Elephant in the Castle

So KTM comes with a ton of new things to be excited about, but let’s also touch upon the elephant in the castle: Reliability and warranty. In my own experience both were far from impressive as described here and here.  I’d like to think I was just unlucky because the pleasure my 2018 1090 Adventure S gives me is just incredible. Some relationships just get better over time right?

I’ll take it!

All in all I am willing to take the risk, the lower price point makes that I have some space to get things fixed or replaced if the KTM warranty does not cover it. And their previous model’s warranty states that they don’t cover much. The sheer horsepower together with all the cool tech makes me forget about the possible downside. As this bike is the perfect street bike for me that you can also easily take off-road I would buy it in a heart beat. I wonder when it will be available in North America and specifically Mexico. Does anyone have any information on this? Please let me know in the comments!

Have a look here for their stunning promo video.

The title is somewhat misleading (click bait?) as the article actually makes no reference to the BMW.
