iPad Pro Hi-Dpi version
Quote from Sentinel_GSA on 27.12.2020, 11:28As I currently use my iPad Air as my go-to navigation platform (see photo, I prefer this over any other device or navi system) my main decision to use the premium Scenic app (and promote it too others) is because of the native iPad version.
This allows for a much more detailed experience than a zoomed in smartphone version like what Calimoto and Rever offers.
I do wonder however how the Scenic app will benefit from the larger screen real-estate of a 12,9" iPad Pro for example. Did you build a native 12,9" version utilising the Hi-dpi display of the retina screens?
This would be a game changer since the iPad Pro outperforms each and every navi system (on speed, controllability, responsiveness, functionality and so on).
I ordered the blackbox embedded click-in part today to add the WunderLINQ features which I find especially functional for its way-point registration. While there are other options to do so, I'm mostly interested in a single, do-all device (like an iPad Pro) instead of carrying a laptop, and other devices with me on travels.
For me, the native iPad app was that unique selling point that I couldn't find elsewhere which made my decision. So don't ever think of dropping it š

Quote from Guido on 27.12.2020, 12:36Apple makes it relatively easy to make a native iPad version of an iPhone app available. There are a few levels in which devs can do this.
1. Do nothing. That's the worst option from a user perspective. you'll get the 'blown up' version of the iPhone app (with poor graphics as a result)2. Same design as iPhone app, but natively build for the iPad resolutions and screen ratios. This isn't too much work. Just requires adding multiple versions of graphics and icons, and a few iPad specific code sections where iPhone code doesn't work.
3. Alternative design for iPad app. In Scenic 2 I did this for some screens (e.g. the routes screen where you see the route list on the left and route details on the right).
Scenic 3 will be the same as Scenic 2, although I will be dropping the split screen from the example above, due to a different design of the route/location/ride lists.

While this is actually just an iPad Air. I'm currently looking at options to fit a 12,9" iPad Pro... Why?! well just because we can... hahaha
The bike is named Sentinel_GSA which can be found on Instagram and Facebook by that exact same reference. Instagram provides a stage for show & tell in regards of either the accessories which were installed but also the overall aftermarkets mods. As a photographer I felt I needed a new outlet for my creativity. Sentinel_GSA proved to be just that. It's a combination of photography and gear review of some sorts.

Hi Sentinal-GSA
I agree with your solution. I own the iPad Pro 12,9 version and I love the scene app on this device. I will receive my new Ducati Multistrada V4 in a week. The Ducati has a Sygic app and dashboard, but the Sygic route app is only for travelling from A to B. I always have my iPad Pro with me when I travel with my motor trough Europe. I am also looking for a solution to use the iPad as a route screen. I will be able to develop a bracket, but the iPad should be hold in a watertight sleeve. Have you thought about solutions in this matter? I appreciate your responses. Thank you. Jos

I'm not "the" Sentinel ofcourse, but I use an iPad aswell. I use the x-grip from RAM Mount for 10' inch tablets with the Wunderlinq attachment for my 2016 R1200RT.
(I'm even split-screening Scenic and Wunderlinq app, because the stats. Statistics are KEY, numbers are holy!)
Good luck!Ping @belgianhimalayan / @jp-v4

Sorry it took me some time to find that the email was forward to my junk mailbox...
@jp-v4
Water damage is always a concern for electronic peripheral devices on a motorcycle. Yet I tend to switch between the waterproof iPhone 12 Pro Max and the iPad in case weather circumstance take a turn for the worse. Especially now with the new 12,9" iPad Pro on the way. I might mount it with the intellisync RAM mount setup (if not to bulky) but I'll have to wait what I find best once I have the iPad.
@belgianhimalayan
First off, thanks for the compliment! Regarding the setup, I've used RAM mounts strictly for all my device. Their modular design and parts allow for practically every kind of connection imaginable. I currently use the WunderLINQ from Black Box Embedded which clicks in the original BMW navi cradle and attached the square AMPS pattern RAM ball mount. But in the previous pictures you see above I removed the cradle and used double RAM torque mounts (size small) to make the connection.
For both setups I plan to do a nice review on my website soon. Let me know if you're interested so I can forward you the link.
Although it's possible with the X-Grip from RAM mount I would prefer a form fitted model specific (iPad mini 5) holder which holds the iPad more snuggly. Less bulk is (at least for me) a heavily valued preference.
@chilion
Hahaha "the Sentinel_gsa" nice, thanks! š My current iPad AIR (1th gen) unfortunately doesn't support split screening. But that's a feature I'm sure to test out with the new iPad Pro heading my way.

I actually went with the X-Grip with the rubber holder versus the GDS Locking mount. Ā I have both and when I went to attach the GDS to the bike it was way too bulky. Ā I instead mounted the X-Grip because itās a lot less bulk. Ā The GDS is very well made but itās HUGE! Ā Maybe Iāll use that on a quad when I am going into the woods.

Thatās the one I went with. Ā I will probably replace the arm with a longer one to better center the iPad between the handlebars.
I should note that I am using an iPad mini 5 with an Otterbox Defender case on it. Ā I would never consider putting a 12.9ā iPad Pro on a bike. Ā IMHO thatās way too much and really expensive (as I type this on a 12.9ā iPad Pro).
