INTRODUCTION

The Moto Intel Report team spent the holidays with family in Mexico and the Netherlands and we haven’t really used our bikes as much, but this February we will pack up and create some new adventures which we will share with you.

In this first Moto Intel Report of 2019 we are going to cover a variety of subjects. Tom will share some of the bad luck he had with his KTM, and he is now eyeballing the new BWM S1000RR which he will write about.

Guido will supply you with some scientific evidence that motorcycle riding is good for your health, he will share some Scenic update news as well as the pivot air chuck and I will discuss an awesome article from ADV rider.Now, without further ado, let’s get rolling…

BMW S1000RR

The new S1000RR is BMW’s latest attempt to fence off the Italian competition in the shape of the Ducati Panigale and the Japanese competition Kawasaki Ninja H2 SX SE. The Duc’ might be the most premium here and is priced at almost $40,000. As has become the standard with modern superbikes, it’s all about shaving off a few pounds while tuning the engine a bit further. The new S1000RR comes 24LB lighter and gains 8hp. With its aggressive headlights, new 6 inch TFT screen and several riding modes, the Bavarian knows how to impress. Have a look here for some supurb racing shots and a detailed walk around!

BIG SCENIC UPDATE

Highly requested features – part 1

Work on Scenic’s big update is coming along nicely. If you followed the journey you know it’s going to have a completely new design and loads of new features. Mostly features that have been highly requested over time, by you guys. One of those features is the ability to better organize, sort and search for routes, trips and locations. Imagine you are going on a big road trip and have prepared a route for each day of the trip. With the big update you will be able to put those routes into a seperate folder so you can easily find them. To get an idea, have a look at the screenshots above. Lastly I want to get ahead of you and answer a few questions that I get a lot:

The Dakar Rally

The Dakar Rally is something many of us riders dream about doing; only a handful actually get to compete while very lucky few get to do it ten times. The 2019 Dakar Rally was Carlo Vellutino’s 10th race! Pivot Air Chuck

Struggeling to get to the valve stem to inflate your tires? I know I am. The rear tire of my BMW R1200RT is impossible to inflate with most air hoses at gas stations. I truly don’t understand why manufacturers don’t consider this in their design. How difficult is it to place an angled valve stem? This gadget has a solution though. Its swivel head allows you to get to the most difficult-to-reach valve stems when you need to inflate your tires. It adapts to most common air-hose couplings. MAINTENANCE

Flat tire

Haven’t had a flat tire since I rode mopeds with my 16-year old buddies in my hometown in Holland, but last Tuesday, I ran out of luck… I hit a patch of glass on the road and 10 minutes later I was stuck with a flat rear tire.

I considered walking it to the gas station, fill the tire and try to make it to the mechanic, but I didn’t want to risk destroying the sidewall of the tire, so we called a tow truck. The mechanic patched the tire and an hour later I was good to go. Things are different when you’re out on your own in the field though, and everyone who has watched the Walter Colebatch videos (Sibersky Extreme), knows that patching up flat tires in the field takes some skill – here’s an interesting 7-step DIY article.
