Happy Friday and for our U.S. readers happy Independence day weekend!<\/span><\/p>\n For most of us, riding season started around the Easter holidays, and this weekend, many are set to hit the roads as temperatures in both Europe and the U.S. are rising. Perhaps the most patriotic tour tip: Mt Rushmore. Situated in the Custer State Park in South Dakota. The mountain not just offers an important bit of US history, it\u2019s also surrounded by some incredible valleys and mountains. Beware of the 1500 buffalos that are roaming freely around the park!<\/p>\n Jasper, Guido and I are set to go for another sunny ride in the lower Bajio region in Mexico this weekend, but before the fun starts\u2026 Guido will show you the latest developments on the Scenic navigation app, he will tell you about his cheap disk lock and share one of his favorite routes in the Amsterdam area. Jasper picked up his new bike last week and is getting some riding shoes to match it, while I share my latest experience with faulty spark plugs.<\/span><\/p>\n Now, without further ado, let\u2019s get rolling…<\/p>\n Jasper, Tom & Guido<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n If you’d like to ride it, you can find it in Scenic. Go to ‘Find Scenic Routes’, zoom way in on the “Sluizen van IJmuiden” (zoom in a lot, otherwise you’ll get too many routes). Then go to the list view and sort by distance (it’s 131km). The route’s name is ‘Rondje Adam’. I hope you’ll like it. Btw, this route browsing will become a lot easier in the big update \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Guido<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n Checking spark plugs is another easy DIY task. Make sure the engine is switched off and let it cool down for at least 2 hours if you\u2019ve been riding your bike. Once you\u2019ve located the spark plug(s), use a special spark plug socket to unscrew the plug. I always learned that \u2018coffee with milk\u2019 colour is a good sign.<\/span><\/p>\n If the spark head is white in colour then your engine is over-heating. A black, feathery carbon deposit on your spark plug however can be caused by a number of reasons, but most of the time, the air\/fuel mixture is too rich.<\/p>\n If you need to change your spark plugs, insert and tighten the new one by hand and make sure you don’t over-tighten the plugs.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Tom<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n Reach over 28k motorcycle enthousiasts with a sponsored article, or have us review your product; placed in the newsletter and on the MotoMappers Blog.<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n Last Saturday I had the pleasure of picking up a brand spanking new (2018) KTM Adventure 1090 from the dealership, and what a pleasure that was! As the 2018 is exactly the same as the 2019 I figured why spend the extra money. I got about 10% off the new price, which is already a pretty good deal. As I am breaking in this beautiful machine, I am still treating her carefully, but that torque, 109Nm of bliss, just makes me grin from ear to ear. Read up on her specs here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Jasper<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n Yamaha’s are the most stolen bikes in Mexico, so since I bought my FJ-09 I wanted to add a bit of theft protection. For me, a disk lock was the obvious choice. It fits easy under the seat, it’s easy to put on and take off your bike, and it has a decent theft protection. I did a lot of research and in the end bought this, relatively cheap one, which is also ‘Amazon’s Choice’, from MYSBIKER.<\/span><\/p>\n It has an integrated alarm that sets off when the bike or lock moves. It’s not extremely loud, but loud enough to get the attention of passer byers and scare off potential thieves. I’ve had it now for about 3 months and am very happy with it. Never had a false alarm, it feels heavy and sturdy and it’s very easy to use and take with you. If I go for short rides I even put it in my jacket pocket. It comes with 2 sets of batteries (still on the first set while the thing is on my bike all the time), 3 keys and a reminder cable.<\/span><\/p>\n Does it offer the very best protection? Probably not, but for its price it’s a very sweet deal. Known brands like Kryptonite or Xena will easily set you back 3 or 4 times as much, while this little thing can be yours for just $28<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n Guido<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n If you followed the ‘big update’ journey you know it has a completely new design and loads of new features. Here, I report on the progress and show you some of those new features.\u00a0This time: Detour Behaviour & Blocked Roads<\/b><\/p>\n Scenic’s detour behaviour is different from main stream navigation apps. You either love it (<\/span>like TwoWheelObsession does<\/a>) or hate it. Currently Scenic sends you back to where you left the route, through a U-turn or circle. It does this, so that you don’t miss anything from your planned route. Sometimes however, you just want to skip a bit of the route and join it further ahead. Because maybe you want to do an unplanned stop, or maybe the road is blocked. That’s why, in the big update, the default detour behaviour is\u00a0customisable<\/span>\u00a0to your preference. And on top of that, a ‘Road Block’ feature is added. By simply tapping a button, the route is recalculated, taking into account that the road ahead is blocked.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n Guido<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n In my search for casual yet safe gear I stumbled upon these cool looking TCX Mood GTX Shoes. A high Wear-Resistant Rubber Sole with malleolus area, toe and heel reinforcements make that you are protected, but if you walk into a coffeeshop nobody will notice you\u2019re wearing motorcycle boots, instead they look like casual broken in leather sneakers. Norway’s west coast is just beautiful! I’ve had the privelage to ride there quite a bit and this view is one of many breathtaking sceneries you’ll come accross. <\/p>\nThis week I wanted to share one of my own routes. A very old one, which I created a very long time ago, when I was still living in Amsterdam. It’s a circle around Amsterdam, passing Haarlem, IJmuiden, Akersloot, Purmerend and ending in Durgerdam. I love this route, because it takes you through all kinds of roads, offers lots of different sceneries and passes some nice cafe’s to take lunch or a short coffee break.<\/p>\n
