WunderLINQ and Scenic 3

Page 1 of 2Next

Not sure if this is the right place to ask, but I do hope WunderLINQ support will continue in ver 3. I've been using the current app version on my 2016 BMW R1200RS, and although I'm not your super high mileage touring rider, I just love the BMW wheel/wunderlinq/scenic integration. I have an iPhone 8 +. Excellent work Guido.

Yep. WunderLINQ support will continue. 👍

Great news Guido, thanks.

Hello Guido new user here with the Wunderlinq and Scenic, I have a question: does scenic support zooming with the bmw wonderwheel?

Thanks

Vinny

Hi Vinny. Yes: https://scenic.app/knowledge-base/wunderlinq-integration/

I am new to scenic.  I chose it because I saw it integration with the WunderLINQ device and I have a 2022 BMW GS. I have set up with Wunderlicq  as well the Scenic app and the Wunderlich is working as I expected, but even though I’ve indicated on the Scenic app that I have a WunderLINQ the functionality of the WunderLINQ within the app it’s very limited only two opening and closing the navigation box once navigation in  a route has been started.  However, the wonder wheel does not seem to be able to zoom in or out of the Maps or make any selections within the navigation box as portrayed in the YouTube video.  It’s practically zero functionality, so I’m wondering what I’m doing wrong. I’ve gone through some of the threads on the form, but I can’t seem to find anything on this and I’m not Particularly sophisticated when it comes to coding of apps and integration with other apps, so I’m hoping to find some help

That’s very strange indeed. What happens in the start screen when you move the wheel up or down? Does the map zoom in/out there?

Could you post a screenshot of your WinderLINQ settings here? (Use the ‘add media’ button.

Could you try these two things:

1) turn the ‘I have a WinderLINQ’ switch off and back on again while your Wunderlinq is connected.

2) Check in iOS Settings > Accessibility > Keyboards that ‘Full Keyboard Access’ is turned OFF.

I tried this to no effect.  I am attaching screenshots your requested and some others I thought may help.

Setting in Wunderlinq:

Settings in Scenic:

When I am in Wunderlinq and clique Navigation it automatically launches the Scenic App.  I can use the wunder wheel to start or resume and once a route is live you can see that the navigation box has a blue border and I can right click on the wunder wheel to access the navigation box.  As you can see the navigation box has the X with a blue border and I can use the wunder wheel to select it and close the navigation box.  However, I can not zoom in or out on the map or otherwise use the wunder wheel to move within items within the navigation box to select them.  The wunder wheel functionality is limited to the start function and selecting and exiting the navigation box.    I hope that makes sense.

I am using an Ipad Mini 6 (2021)

Hi Tulio,

Definitely strange. Just to double check. This is how your keyboard settings (in iOS Settings > Accessibility > Keyboard) should look like.

If they look like that, and it's still not working, I have to do some more investigation myself.

I didn't change anything in the Scenic code for quite some time regarding the WunderLINQ handeling, so not sure what could cause this.

Perhaps the WunderLINQ guys changed something, or it's iOS related.

Guido,

I can confirm that my iOS Settings > Accessibility > Keyboard) are as you indicate above.

Thanks for our prompt action.  I'll wait to see what you find out.  If there is any change on my end I will update here.

Thanks again.

I found this on the WunderLINQ site:

Did you go through these procedures as well? Here is the link:

Thanks Guido,

I have been following the procedure to transfer wunder wheel control from TFT to NAV unit as I similarly had to in order to operate the Garmin Nav unit I have been using before trying to use Wunderlinq and Scenic with a tablet.  The wunderlinq module seems to be working fine.  I don't seem to be experiencing connection or responsiveness issues with the Wunder wheel other than when I am in Scenic the functionality of the wheel seems limited to the items I described.  But even there the responsiveness of the Wunder wheel seems fine it's just not controlling the zoom and the navigation box as I expected based on the video on Scenic/Wunderlinq integration.

OK. I'm waiting for an answer of another user who had a similar problem and was able to resolve it. I don't know how, but I've sent him an email and will get back to you here once I know more. Thank you for your patience.

OK, I wanted to update you. Are you ready for this? I decided to use my iPhone 13 and I’m happy to report I have full functionality with the iPhone.  However, I just bought the iPad mini  6 and the WunderLINQ  with the hope of using a tablet  instead of my phone.  Therefore, would really like the iPad working if you can help.

OK. That's good news. Well... at least we know it's not the WunderLINQ.

I suspect it's some kind of accessibility setting related to external keyboard use, but as soon as I hear from the other user, I'll let you know. I'm hoping he has the solution. I can't think of anything in the Scenic code that would differentiate between iPhone and iPad when it comes to the WunderLINQ, but you never know.

Are you running the same iOS version on both devices? (Shouldn't really matter, but better if we rule that out as well)

WunderLINQ seems to work equally with both iPad and iPhone.  However the integrated apps don’t.  I bought a one month subscription to inRoute to try to isolate the culprit and had similar results.

as far as iOS:

iPad says iPadOS 16.2 (20C65)

iPhone says iOS 16.2 (20C65)

With "similar results" do you mean: WunderLINQ working as expected in inRoute on iPhone, but not working as expected in inRoute on iPad?

We'll get to the bottom of this 🙂

Correct.  In route wunder wheel responsiveness was better in iPhone but I don’t know how the full functionality of wunder wheel in inRoute so I can’t say 100% but at least on iPhone the response to wunder Wheel in in route made some sense.  On iPad the response to wonder wheel input didn’t make any sense
