Scenic 2 to 3 upgrade choice?
Quote from Maxodo on November 6, 2020, 02:08Hi Guido, I have read the lastest notes on the upcoming Scenic 3.
As I have posted before I love the app and the way it works now I have learnt it well. I am wary of the changes to 3 and that features or ways of working may be lost. If we upgrade to 3 will it be possible to go back to 2? I am also worried as I have a mix of devices and some will not run 3 due to the iOS so I could have the issues you report using 'mixed' devices and versions.

1. Usability: the change won’t be as big as the change from Scenic 1 to Scenic 2. Big parts of usability will remain the same or improve (more intuitive). Some things around using the map and the routing will change where necessary, when the new framework works a bit differently then the old one.
2. Rolling back to previous version. I’m afraid Apple’s App Store doesn’t allow that. The App Store will always give you the latest available version that runs on your device. So you can only upgrade, not downgrade. What you can do is two things (1) become a beta tester. Then you get early access and determining you like the new version. Beta versions cán be rolled back) (2) disable auto-update and only update once your ready.
3. Mixing versions: Scenic 2 and 3 work on the same database (unlike Scenic 1), so your data will sync. There will be a difference in map data and routing engine. Because of this routes created in Scenic 2 might be a bit different in Scenic 3. For routes with many via points the chance of differences is low though.
hope this explains more?
