Saddlesore 1000 Route Planning

I am doing a Leap Year Saddlesore 1000 tomorrow and I used Scenic to plan the route.  I will be using it for my primary navigation and tracking on this trip.  It was very simple to plan the route using vias and move them around until I got the miles I wanted.  When I say, move them around, it means placing a new one and deleting an old one.  It’s an easy process. I  actually planned three different routes then considered potential traffic issues.

I decided on a route and loaded it into Google to see what another app my route.  Turned out Google routed it exactly the same.  The only difference I saw was Scenic is saying it will take just over 18.25 hours and Google is saying 14.5 hours.  I suspect it will be somewhere in between.

Hi @doppler,

That's a great way to spend the extra day of this year 🙂! I wish you good luck and a safe ride!

Did you know you can also move markers by tapping on them and then selecting the middle button (in the bubble that appears) to move it?

For the routing, you could also have Scenic calculated a curvy route between the points you placed (there is a button in the upper toolbar for that).

And the duration: what Scenic version are you using (you can see it at the bottom of Settings tab). In version 2.2.2 the duration estimation was improved. Or at least that was the idea 🙂. Might have to do some more tweaking.

Cheers and all the best for tomorrow!

If you're enjoying Scenic and are happy with the support, please leave a nice rating in the App Store. It would mean a lot to me ❤️

I’m using 2.2.4 (4).

No, I did not know about being able to move the via point.  But, when I look at it again I certainly should have known.  I’ve opened that several times to delete a point and just never paid attention to the obvious “move” icon. :).

I don’t know if it is a good time estimate or not.  I’ll know more tomorrow.  Based on past rides it seems a little long, but we’ll see.  Maybe you’ve made Scenic so smart that it already knows I have a slow bike and I’m an old man.

I was aware of the “curvy” option, but only have 24 hours to do the 1000 miles so I was just using quickest route.

Thanks!
