Navigation doesn't start

Hello!

Congrats on what I assume to be a fantastic app but sadly I can't get it work. Any help with fixing my problem would be great.

I use iPhone SE (2016 model).

I can create routes very well on the app, I can import routs via pgx files without a problem.

When I open a saved route, I press the "Navigate" button, the app recognizes my location and calculates the route to my start point but then nothing happens 🙁

I start driving my location remains the same. After a while the "Resume" button shows up, I press it and still nothing happens. After a few minutes usually the "Bad GPS reception" alert shows up. If I exit navigation a begin a new one, the app again recognizes my location, calculates the route to my star point but still doesn't navigate when I start moving. Strangly enough, when i end navigation, despite navigation never starting, on the "Save Ride" window there´s an accurate information of the km´s I rode, how long it took and avarage speed...

Going to add some print screens and please ignore the fact that the pic with the "Resume Button" is taken a few minutes after the pic with the "Bad GPS Reception" alert. The order is the resume button showing first then the bad gps alert.

Please help, I really want to use Scenic. Thank you

Hi Diogo,

This is very strange. It looks like the screen is not updating, but somehow it is registering some movement, not sure what. When you go to the rides tab and tap on the ride that you saved, what do you see on the map?

It could be a faulty GPS receiver. Have you tried any other navigation app like Waze or Google Maps? Do they act normal?

Can you also check if Scenic has 'Always' location access please? Normally, if you're not locking your phone during navigation, the 'While in use' should be enough, but just to be sure, make sure it's on 'Always'. You can check this in the iOS Settings App > Scenic.

Let me know what you find.

Cheers,
Guido

Thank you very much for a swift reply.

On the saved ride the map is empty (only a picture of Earth with a dot representing my current location). Though it has the stats for the ride (km's, time duration and avarage speed).

I´ve tryed with both always and when in use configurations for the location access and the result is the same.

Never had a problem with Google Maps but sometimes Waze looses track of my location.

I think it's possible that I have a faulty GPS receiver as you suggest. If you don't have any other explanation for the app's beahvior on my phone, I guess I'm going to have the phone's GPS checked.

What I think is that Scenic only gets a sporadic location form iOS. iOS Location Services works not only with the GPS receiver, but also by triangulating cellular towers and any wifi signals it's picking up. From what you've told me I think it's very likely your GPS receiver has a malfunction, and it's only using the cellular and wifi signals (which is very inaccurate). The duration is not based on GPS signal, so it's very possible that that's correct, but I would expect the distance and the average speed not to be in line with reality. Is that correct?

I've had a few users before with faulty GPS receivers. I even had it myself with an older iPhone 6. Have a look at this forum post for more info on this... if you're a handy you can buy this component and fix it yourself (see link in this post): https://scenic.app/forum/topic/iphone-11-gps-issues/#postid-710

I cannot say for sure. Would have to make a new test to verify it.

Thanks for the link. I do not have the skills to do that procedure 🙂 But I'm going to find someone to do it for me.

I'll let you know how it turns out.

Thanks for the help.

Just an update to say that I replaced the phone's antenna and the app works great now.

Thanks for all the help and congrats once again on a awesome work with this app!
