Import of fastest route from Kurviger.de to Scenic get the wrong setup/trace

Hi @guidomm,

first of all thank you for the app, all in all it is really a great app, I love it a lot and share it with my friends!

I found out a bug which is quite anoying for long ride: when you create a route from the site Kurviger.de using the "fastest route" option (the first out the four icons), then when you import the route on Scenic (by paying with some credit), then the route itself on the Scenic App is actually a different one! Much longer in my case: It is somehow equivalent to the "Fast & curvy" (2/4 icon on Kurviger) setup from Kurviger.

I tried to import the GPX track in many different way to my iPhone, but the result was always the same: I did not get the original route on the Scenic app. I got the feeling that Scenic only import the "configuration of Kruviger" but not the proper gpx trace (for data size reason?) and only the last 3 of 4 curvy options are available via the Scenic app.

It is unfortunate because I could not find an equivalent route as kurviger (fast, but avoiding highway and still motorcycle friendly and fun to ride) using the Scenic "fast, efficent & short" routing options.

So could you give me a feedback if I got the things wrong or, can you just make sure it is possible to import the original gpx traces from Kurviger on the app?

If you need my route to see the problem I can share it to you!

Thank you in advance!

Hi Micky,

A couple things that I can recommend for this scenario. First of all, I recommend NOT to use the fast routing in Kurviger.de. The Fast routing in Kurviger (so, the first one of the four options), is not a curvy routing. If you're going to use that one, it's just better to use fast routing in Scenic. It should give you more or less the same result.

Second recommendation: It's not necessary to export to GPX from Kurviger.de. You can send the route to Scenic automatically by using the 'Send to Scenic' button in Kurviger. Another option is to use the curvy routing option in the Scenic app itself  (which will also call the Kurviger API). This will save you a few import steps. To use this you can choose the 'Create Route' button in the routes tab, set your start and end point, and choose the 'Curvy' button in the top toolbar. The 'Create Route' also gives you the opportunity to customising the route any way you like by moving / adding / deleting via points.

Having said this, it is strange that Scenic won't give you the exact route as Kurviger, even if you do choose the fastest route. It could be a mapping issue on Scenic side. I'd be happy to take a look if you send me the Kurviger URL (copy paste browser address bar when the route is on the Kurviger screen). If you want you can email it to me through the 'email me' button at the bottom of the support page.

If you're enjoying Scenic and are happy with the support, please leave a nice rating in the App Store. It would mean a lot to me ❤️

Hi Guido,

thanks for the quick answer!

At least for the route I planned I do not agree with you and do prefere the Kurviger fast (w/o highway) trace because I did it last year and the road is still curvy and fun to drive, futhermore it save me theoritically 30min on a very long day trip.

I did used the 'Send to Scenic' button (which is by the way great and user friendly!) But I believe it import the setup, which is somehow drifted on the "fast" option between the Kurviger site and Scenic app.

You can have a look at the route in the link above and see how the route looks like once import in app. It is not the same. I paid actually a couple of credit because I though I did something wrong and tried different import solutions, but still the route are unfortunatly not identical.

Hi Micky,

I've taken a look at the route and you're totally right. This is what I get when I click at your link:

When I use the 'Send to Scenic' button and import it, even the blue line in Scenic is different. I've taken a closer look and this is because Scenic currently does not support the 'fast' option from Kurviger. It only support the three curvy options. When Scenic import the route that you sent through the 'Send to Scenic' button, basically Scenic requests the Kurviger to generate the route with all the routing options and advanced routing options you selected in Kurviger. Kurviger then generates this route again and sends back the coordinates to Scenic. But, since Scenic and Kurviger don't map the 'Fast' routing, Scenic request the regular 'curvy' routing, resulting in a different route. I'll take a look if I can add the 'fast' routing from Kurviger too.

Meanwhile, what you could do is export the GPX from Kurviger (choose the 'track' option) and then import that GPX into Scenic using the Scenic WebApp. You'll have to check the route carefully (if blue line matches the magenta line) as it will need some manual corrections.

I've given you additional credits to compensate for the ones you lost and to try the GPX option out.

If there's anything else please let me know.

Best regards,
Guido

Danke für die Credits es ist sehr freundlich!

Ich glaube das ich mit der WebApp auch versucht habe und es war das gleiche. Werde aber wider probieren!
