Change Language Inside the App
Quote from ChrisCroft on 30.12.2020, 09:08Hi Guido,
Not sure, if this is something that's under your countrol:
My iPhone (iOS 14.x) is set to English. Which means that that the voice guidance is also in English. Which is fine as such but has the side effect that locations are also pronounced in "English". Depending on where you drive, it can be impossible to understand what is meant.
Is there a chance you can in-app change the language output? Sure, commands and location at the same time. Should be fine if the locations and commands are then given in, for example, Italian. Might be tricky to understand the commands in countries where you have zero knowledge of the language but then you can stil switch to a language that you understand and that pronounces the location names in an understandable way (which is mostly NOT English).
Sure, a solution could also be to change the language settings of the entire device. But since this is close to a reboot, it's not that great of an overall user experience.
I guess you already pondered over this issue in the past ...?
Best regards,
Chris

There is a difference between the UI language and the language of the voice guidance instructions.
The UI language is determined by your setting in iOS Settings App > General > Language & Region > Preferred language setting. Scenic supports English, Spanish, German, Dutch and French at the moment. It will look at your preferred languages list and take the top most one that’s supported.
The voice guidance instructions can be set in Scenic itself and their language is independent of the UI language. Scenic currently supports 23 languages for voice guidance instructions. You can set it in Scenic > Settings > Sound & Haptics > Voice & Language.
Hope this helps.
Best regards and a happy & healthy 2021,
Guido

That was easy - thanks for your prompt help.
I was actually once in the Voice & Language settings of Scenic ... saw all the English accents, and chose the one I liked the most. I didn't even scroll further, assuming it's anyhow all just English voices in this list.
But yep, I guess I should have been more patient and scrolled down. If that counts as an excuse. 🙂Best regards and all the best for the year to come,
Chris

Best Wishes for 2022 and may the birht od the Andriod app be nae. 🙂

Im afraid changing app language is only possible by changing the order of preferred languages in iOS settings > General > Language & Region. This is the way that Apple has implemented this. Deviating from that would mean implementing a complete custom system for multi language support.
At the moment Scenic supports English, Dutch, German, Spanish and French. Every app goes through your preferred language list and then use the first one that it supports.
Best regards and best whishes for 2022,
Guido
