Can unpaved roads be more clearly marked?
Quote from tomc403dda on 12.10.2020, 07:30Recently I've led rides that included riders with cruisers or road bikes not happy on gravel roads. Even though "avoid unpaved roads" was selected during route planning, the routes included significant sections of gravel roads.
In addition, sometimes riding on unpaved roads in unavoidable even when "avoid unpaved roads" is selected. For instance if route start or stop or via point is on an unpaved road.
I've learned from this forum that the current map source data sometimes lacks information on whether a road is paved or unpaved, and that this issue will be less of a problem when you update the map source data. That's great news as this issue is my biggest problem with Scenic.
Is it possible to see unpaved sections of a route ahead of time? Alternatively, can there be a notification during the route planning process that a route includes unpaved sections?
Thanks, love the app!

Quote from Guido on 12.10.2020, 15:11I'm afraid that not possible. At least not at the moment with the current map provider. That provider only takes this 'avoid unpaved' as an input parameter. I can not query the map data on the type of roads in the route, nor the type of roads on the visible map. With the new map provider in Scenic 3 this might be possible, but I have not looked into that yet. If it is, I'll definitely be adding it (because you are not the first one asking and I clearly see the added value in this).

Quote from Batty on 01.04.2022, 23:53I agree. The app is great for planning a good ride. However, when selecting “Curvy” route with no “unpaved” roads the app states that some unpaved roads are unavoidable without any indication of which parts of the route are unpaved. The work around is to keep changing the route until no unpaved sections are evident - however this is s bit tedious!
Overall though 11 out of 10 for this app!

Quote from Guido on 02.04.2022, 01:02Since this original post, custom map styles were introduced. With those you can make unpaved roads a lot clearer on the map. See this example.. orange roads are unpaved. Use the circled button to create your own style.
