Bug: Music in the background low volume

Page 1 of 2Next

@guidomm - please help with this.

This is a rather annoying issue ... not sure if others are experiencing it.

When my music is playing in the background, at the beginning it plays at a normal level. Then soon after Scenic starts making announcements, the music gets lower allowing Scenic's voice to play over the music at the same time - and this is by design - which is awesome. The problem is that often, even after Scenic has finished the announcement, the music volume never returns back to normal. Keep in mind this has nothing to do with the music app volume itself, nor with the hardware volume level of the phone.

Initially I thought it may be due to me running so many GPS/voice apps in the background at the same time. But yesterday I made a test and used Spotify and Scenic only and the problem still occurs.

I guess I could use Scenic with announcements turned off - but this is not ideal at all as I'd rather pay attention at the road than constantly looking at the phone for directions.

I'm using the app on Iphone 11 at the moment; this was happening on my previous Iphone X too.

I am aware of this issue. It’s a bug. Currently a beta version is being tested with a fix for this. It looks like that fix solves the problem. I will be releasing this version to the App Store in the coming week.

Apologies for the inconvenience.

My music problem is bigger than this.  Often the music will stop entirely when Scenic interrupts it, and will not restart unless I do so manually.  Had to do this several times yesterday and finally gave up listening to music because it was too distracting to keep messing with my phone while riding.

I am using an iPhone SE, iOS 13.3.1, and the standard "Music" app that came on the phone.  The only apps I had open were Scenic and Music.

I do not have this problem when using Google Maps or Waze, BTW.

Thanks for everything you do, Guido!

Scenic Version 2.2.6 was released to the App Store yesterday afternoon (US time). Could you give it a try with that? I believe this will resolve all the issues with voice and music. If not, of course please let me know.

My phone says that I am using v. 2.2.6 already.  I do not know if this updated before or after my ride yesterday, so I will have to give it a test and let you know.

Thanks!

Similar issue twice in past week.  2.2.6 and premium being used. Pandora was media player in use.  Happened twice right after a speed limit audible warning.

Tried again this week with v. 2.2.6 and standard Music app.  Problem persists; volume drops and, often, after the current song ends, no more music will play unless restarted manually.  It is not possible use Scenic and Music at the same time.

Ok. Thanks everyone for the feedback. Obviously I’ll need to take another look at this. Will do so in coming week. If you’d like to beta test please send me a direct email. Would be handy because I don’t seem to have this problem myself, so hard to know if it’s fixed.

Guido, sorry to be ignorant but I cannot figure out how to send you a direct email.  I would certainly be willing to beta test for you.

Sorry. If you go to support page, all the way at the bottom, there’s an ‘email me’ button.

Lost my music half way through following a route I created today. Chirps to look at map also went away. Using iPhone Xs and downloaded the app yesterday.

Hi Rob,

Yesterday version 2.2.7 was released which was supposed to resolve this.... or so are thought. Are you sure you were running 2.2.7 at that time? (It was released Saturday morning (Central Time)). If it was please could you send me a screenshot of your Sounds & Haptics settings? Best is through email (at bottom of support page).

Cheers,
Guido

Well, you are now, but the question is were you on 2.2.7 when you did the ride?  Could it be that the app auto updated to 2.2.7 between your ride and the moment you made this screenshot?

Apple approved 2.2.7 on Friday 2:30 PM Central Time, and it usually takes a few hours for them to push it to the App Store after that. After the push to the App Store, anyone downloading the app for the first time and anyone going to the App Store and manually updating, will get 2.2.7.

HOWEVER, auto-app-updates are not immediate to all people who have the app. It’s spread over 24-48 hours and also depends on the setting that users set (is auto-update enabled and on WiFi only)?

Its not that I don’t believe you, just want to make sure that you were not running 2.2.6 and thus experienced the bug that I already fixed in 2.2.7. If you are sure about when you downloaded the app please let me know, but if there is a gray area there, perhaps it’s better to see if you still have this problem on your next ride, because I did not receive any other feedback regarding this for version 2.2.7 (yet???)

Update to this issue.  Now running 2.2.8 and when app speaks volume goes down but I have to turn it back up manually after each time.

Could you try following:

- Start a ride

- Open Nav menu

- Use volume buttons in nav menu (without playing music) to turn up voice volume (a test countdown voice will sounds and it will ask you to use hardware buttons to adjust volume while test sound plays.

Haven’t made the leap yet to buy. I have credits for the voice but it doesnt work.  Just hear the clicking noise when I press the volume up.

OK. I have not received other feedback regarding sound issues since version 2.2.8, so for now I'm assuming it has to be something with your settings or setup. If below steps don't work I'll of course look further...

First, could you double-check all the things here (ignore the premium one as you're using credits): https://scenic.app/knowledge-base/no-voice-guidance-instructions/
and here: https://scenic.app/knowledge-base/low-voice-volume/

If none of this solves it, could you please leave a message here or send me a direct email (through 'email me' button at bottom of support page) with:
- Screenshot of your Sound & Haptics Settings
- The brand and model of your com set
- Any other information you can think of that could make a difference (does this also happen if not connected to com set, how is your com set / radio connected to your iPhone, etc.)

I discovered a very similar problem in the past few rides using an iPhone6s running iOS14.5.1 and Scenic 2.3.8

Music is playing on normal volume until a Scenic Announcement is played. Then the music volume goes down a bit and so does the Scenic Announcement-volume! After the announcement is finished, music comes back to normal volume.

So during an announcement, I hear music and the Scenic announcement on the same lowered volume which hardly makes the announcement understandable.

If I pause the music myself, I can hear the Scenic announcements with the normal sound level, so everything fine there.
Turning the voice volume to max. (130%) seams to solve the Problemas long as I am listening to music but the voice-tone does not sound nice with this setting and as soon as I stop the music, the voice volume is too loud.

This is when using a Cardo Packtalk Bold as a Bluetooth-Headset

edit: Oh and I already cranked up the volume to the Max using the volume buttons in Scenic without having the music playing. That didn't help unfortunately
